Health & Wellness Resources

The Whitely Neighborhood is considered a “Promised Neighborhood” which means this neighborhood historically suffers from intense economic pressure, increased poverty, blight, crime, and a lack of resources within proximity of residents living in the area.

Children living in Promised Neighborhoods face obstacles to success in every area of life, starting with educational outcomes. In addition to high poverty rates, transportation, for some remains an issue as residents travel across town to access health and dental care.

Our Mission

The goal of the Health & Wellness Committee is to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life of all Whitely residents by empowering individuals and families to model positive attitudes and behaviors through a lifelong commitment to wellness.

Neighborhood Conditions:

A high poverty rate of 47% and a median household income of $15,219.

An increased number of Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed (A.L.I.C.E) individuals in addition to a high number of elderly residents over the age of 65 who report caring for someone who has a handicap or being handicap themselves.

The neighborhood sits in a food desert with access to just one gas station and one dollar store.

Our goal is to:

Provide awareness of community resources to Whitely neighborhood residents and provide wellness facts for the community.

Provide the tools that lead to a healthier community.

Provide opportunities for preventative care (flu shots, vaccines, immunization, depression screening, cancer screening, colonoscopy, etc.)
